What each number actually means

Resolution
The total pixels your display shows, written as width × height. More pixels means a sharper, more detailed picture.
Aspect ratio
The shape of your screen, the relationship between width and height. 16:9 is standard widescreen; 21:9 is ultrawide.
Pixel ratio (DPR)
How many physical pixels map to one CSS pixel. A value of 2 means a high-density "Retina"-class display.
Color depth
Bits used per pixel for color. 24-bit shows about 16.7 million colors, the common standard for monitors.
Viewport
The visible area of your browser window in CSS pixels, which changes when you resize or zoom the page.

The basics

What is screen resolution?

Screen resolution is the number of distinct pixels your display can show, written as the horizontal count times the vertical count. A 1920 × 1080 screen packs roughly 2.1 million pixels into the panel. The more pixels you have, the finer the detail in text, images, and video.

Resolution alone doesn't tell the whole story. Two screens can share the same resolution but differ in size, which changes how dense those pixels feel. That density, measured in pixels per inch (PPI), is what makes a phone look razor-sharp and a large TV look softer up close.

The third piece is aspect ratio, the width-to-height shape that decides whether a screen is standard 16:9 or ultrawide 21:9. Resolution, pixel density, and aspect ratio are the three numbers behind every display, and together they explain how any screen looks.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I find my screen resolution? +
The fastest way is the checker at the top of this page, which reads your resolution directly from your browser. To confirm it manually, open Display settings on Windows or System Settings → Displays on macOS.
Is the detected resolution accurate? +
Yes for resolution, aspect ratio, pixel ratio, and color depth, which browsers report reliably. Refresh rate is estimated by sampling and is labeled approximate, and OS or browser is a best-effort guess from your browser's user agent.
Does this tool upload or store my data? +
No. Everything runs in your browser on your device. Nothing about your screen is uploaded, logged, or saved by us.
Why is my resolution different from my monitor's native one? +
Display scaling and zoom can change the values your browser reports. The checker shows what your system is currently using, which may be lower than the panel's maximum native resolution.
